The next level course for the PALS/ACLS certificate holders

All the individuals who have already been awarded with a certification in PALS and ACLS courses can enroll themselves for the new PALS Recert course. The professionals who are already certified in these courses can enhance their skills further by taking up for this recertification course. This course is available with all the institutions which are providing PALS and ACLS courses and are certified by the   American Heart Association (AHA). 

The certificate stating that the individual has successfully completed his PALS San Francisco or ACLS course is to be used as the proof that the person is eligible for taking up the next level course which is PALS Recert or ACLS Recert respectively. Initially, it is to be determined whether the professional needs to enroll himself for the course or just the renewal of the card (certificate) is needed.

The AHA releases a textbook containing all the guidelines regarding these courses. This textbook can be used until the AHA releases a new set of guidelines and thus, a next edition of the book. So for a PALS/ACLS Recert course, it is another requirement that the person should possess the latest textbook released by the AHA. 

These are the only two requirements that you need to fulfill if you are aspiring to get admitted to the PALS Recert or ACLS Recert programs. So whether you are a physician, a nurse, a pediatrician, any other medical professional or from a different professional background, you can take the new course if you have already received the PALS or ACLS certification. As far as the question of the textbook is concerned, you can use the one you got at the time of your PALS/ ACLS course after ensuring that the same set of guidelines is being followed. Otherwise, you can also borrow the same from someone who has attended these courses earlier.
