Signs of heart attack in women

All of us have seen a man getting a heart attack in a movie or in real. However imagining a woman getting a sudden arrest seems somewhat unusual. Sadly, women are equally prone to get a heart attack as men however the symptoms may be different.

Heart attack symptoms in women
Most commonly observed heart attack symptoms in women are pressure or pain in the lower chest or the upper abdomen, shortness in breath, fainting, dizziness, excessively low energy levels and pressure in the upper back. These signs may seem subtle however the consequences can be lethal. When facing such symptoms, it is very important for the woman to get the required help right away.

Incorrect diagnosis of the symptoms
This has been the primary reason why a heart condition in women does not come to notice at first. Women often take these symptoms to be occurring due to acidity, weakness in the body due to aging or flu. Women have their own reasons for hiding their problems from their family. They fear from the treatment or a long stay in the hospital away from their home or don’t want to bother their family. Otherwise, lack of knowledge is another common reason for mistaking a heart attack as just a pain. Instead of calling someone for help, they will prefer taking a pill for relieving the pain.

What to do
Women can not only save themselves from a disaster during a heart attack but can also avoid heart problems by certain simple measures. Visit your doctor on a regular basis to know your risks for a heart disease. You can also consider taking nutritional advice from an expert to keep your heart healthy. Quit smoking as soon as possible; this can trim down your chances of having a heart attack to 50 percent. Exercising is highly suggested for women of all age groups. It can be simple fitness exercises, yoga or a morning walk.

There are special training courses such as CPR, ACLS and PALS available in Bay Area that can be attended to know the right way of helping a person getting a heart attack.

Requirements for Advanced Life Support Certifications

As per the statistics, there has been a significant increase in the number of patients losing their lives to cardiovascular troubles. With the intent to improve the conditions, the American Heart Association (AHA) has designed certain courses namely ACLS and PALS. The techniques used in the courses are much more comprehensive and effective.

Traits of an Emergency Health Care Professional…
In order to provide effective treatment to the patients experiencing cardiac arrest, an individual has to be highly accurate, attentive, decisive and whilst dedicated and calm. The advanced life support programs are just the extension of traditional CPR and BLS, therefore the medical providers are required to know a whole lot of details regarding the appropriate measures.

The comprehensive knowledge includes the steps that should be taken at the time of emergency, and administration and management of the situation until appropriate help is facilitated. For instance, the medical practitioner should not only be able to manage the patient on the way to the medical facility but also to initiate, read and understand electrocardiograms. Besides he should also have a decent understanding of pharmacology and basic medication.

How to take the course…

Both the advanced life support courses can either be undertaken through the major medical facilities or also through the online courses accredited by AHA. Undertaking online courses is great way to learn as per your learning convenience and therefore is most convenient. However for more of a detailed learning, real time courses should be opted for.

The programs are intended for all the medical health care providers including the nurses, doctors, pediatrics, therapists and all the staff that is responsible for providing immediate relief to the patients in emergency cases. The courses PALS and ACLS in Sacramento can also be undertaken through a reliable institution. The training is focused on helping the patient to manage their airways, establish and maintain a normal heart rate and other techniques that are required to be performed in an emergency treatment action plan.

The next level course for the PALS/ACLS certificate holders

All the individuals who have already been awarded with a certification in PALS and ACLS courses can enroll themselves for the new PALS Recert course. The professionals who are already certified in these courses can enhance their skills further by taking up for this recertification course. This course is available with all the institutions which are providing PALS and ACLS courses and are certified by the   American Heart Association (AHA).

PALS Training

The certificate stating that the individual has successfully completed his PALS San Francisco or ACLS course is to be used as the proof that the person is eligible for taking up the next level course which is PALS Recert or ACLS Recert respectively. Initially, it is to be determined whether the professional needs to enroll himself for the course or just the renewal of the card (certificate) is needed.

The AHA releases a textbook containing all the guidelines regarding these courses. This textbook can be used until the AHA releases a new set of guidelines and thus, a next edition of the book. So for a PALS/ACLS Recert course, it is another requirement that the person should possess the latest textbook released by the AHA.

These are the only two requirements that you need to fulfill if you are aspiring to get admitted to the PALS Recert or ACLS Recert programs. So whether you are a physician, a nurse, a pediatrician, any other medical professional or from a different professional background, you can take the new course if you have already received the PALS or ACLS certification. As far as the question of the textbook is concerned, you can use the one you got at the time of your PALS/ ACLS course after ensuring that the same set of guidelines is being followed. Otherwise, you can also borrow the same from someone who has attended these courses earlier.

Professional life support courses for patients with cardiac issues

Thanks to the therapeutic science, there are treatments available for numerous types of diseases. However, there is a significant difference between the intensity of the diseases and the care required. For instance, the diseases that may show some acute symptoms like cardiac problems need care from specially trained professionals for handling patients facing an emergency.

There are various courses that have been specially designed for medical professionals who work with patients with critical health complications and who may need sudden help. The CPR or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation courses can be taken up by anyone who wants to get prepared for an emergency situation. He need not be necessarily from the medical or nursing field. In situations like heart attacks, it is the first few minutes in which the patient can be saved if properly handled. So people who have older family members or heart patients at home may enroll for these courses.

Life Support

An advanced version of this course is the BLS or basic life support course. In the hospitals, the BLS is the primary requirement for the life support staff. This course is comprised of the steps of life support given to patients as soon as they reach the hospital. The most advanced life support course is the ACLS or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support course. For attending the ACLS Bay Area course, the CPR course certification is a prerequisite. The aspirants for attending the course also need a lot of emotional strength to keep calm during emergency situations.

The course consists of a great deal of hand-on practice on the tools and equipments to be used. Also the professionals are made to work in teams by creating similar scenarios. On completion of the course, a certificate is provided which is valid for a specific time interval after which the person has to enroll for the most recent version of it to update his knowledge.

PALS – what it is

Pediatric Advanced Life Support
What it consists of

The PALS teaches the students about how to recognize the type of problem occurred and how to react to it. It is a comprehensive study on how to help children in trouble in the safest and most efficient manner. There is a lot of difference in a grown up heart patient and a child patient. Adults with such complicacies have an idea about their condition and may take some steps to tell someone that they need help. However, children generally are not aware of their health problems and get frightened that worsens the condition.

Who should attend PALS classes in San Francisco

The PALS classes in San Francisco must be attended by the professional health care employees who deal with such children. It is also recommended for those who have heart patients or elders at home. These programs make the students capable of helping someone in a critical condition and save his life. Parents of infants with cardiac issues must enroll themselves for these courses.

After attending a PALS course, the students will be provided a certificate confirming that the person concerned is capable of helping a child or an infant in an emergency health condition and should be allowed to do so. These courses are delivered in institutions as well as online. Another important thing is to refresh your certification as these courses undergo several modifications and upgrading.
